Day face cream
Day cream is one of the most important products in facial skin care. Enriched with chemical substances and natural ingredients, it improves the condition of the epidermis, fighting particular complaints and stimulating its natural processes.
It is believed that women in ancient Rome were the first to use day cream for face. During archeological excavations in London, some years ago, a clay pot with greasy texture was found with finger prints on it. Scientists assume that it contains exactly face cream.
Leaving this find aside, it is well known that ancient people have used a variety of natural products to keep their skin young, shining and beautiful. Among them were animal fat, olive oil, alligator manure, milk, honey and fruits, some of which could be found in a modern day face cream, as well.
The first formula developed in a chemical laboratory appears in the 18th century and since then it is an integral part of beautifying rituals of women around the world, and in the last decade - of men, too.
Nowadays, there are many different kinds of day face creams, in accordance with the characteristics of the relevant skin type and its specific needs. Some cream formulas are enriched with hydrating, nourishing, sun protecting and anti-aging ingredients, while others combine few of them in a single product.
The perfect day cream should contain emollients like jojoba oil, Shea butter, Aloe Vera and lanolin, which nourish and hydrate the skin and prevent inflammation; antioxidants such as vitamin A and E to protect the skin from free radicals; hyaluronic acid and retinol to combat aging and to stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis.
