Bad habits that worsen dandruff

There are many different factors that determine the accelerated renewal of skin cells on the scalp, known to us as dandruff. One of them is the disturbance of body functions, the environment is another one, and our own unhealthy habits - a third one.

Washing your hair with hot water

As much as you may enjoy hot showers, especially in winter, you should know that they do not have a positive impact neither on the hair nor on the scalp. To avoid an increase of the presence of dandruff, it is best to wash your hair with lukewarm to cool water.

Use of unsuitable cosmetics

Choose your cosmetic products in accordance with the specific needs of your hair and scalp. Before using a certain preparation, always check the ingredients it contains, to make sure that nothing in it could further irritate your scalp.

Smoking

Unfortunately for all smokers, to the negative effects of tobacco smoke we can add yet another one - it tends to dry the scalp and to increases its sensitivity, which only worsens dandruff.

Overuse of aggressive shampoos

Frequent washing of the hair, especially with shampoos that are not intended for everyday use, removes the natural oils of the scalp and alters its pH. Consequently, the scalp becomes more prone to the development of microorganisms, including Malassezia Globosa, indicated as one of the possible causes of dandruff.

Not washing your hair as often as it needs

Increasing the interval between two washes too much is also not a good idea, because the scalp and the hair accumulate large amounts of sebum and impurities. Thus, the scalp becomes a hospitable environment for the spread of the fungus Malassezia.

Malnutrition

Unhealthy eating habits and drastic diets usually result in deficiency of essential for the body components and weaken the immune system. As a consequence, the chances of appearance or increase of dandruff rise dramatically.

Stress

It was found that people who cannot control their emotions and to balance the stress levels are more prone to dandruff. Everyday nervous tension leads to unhealthy changes in diet and in production of hormones, which inevitably affect the skin disease.

Not protecting your hair in winter

Many of us do not wear a hat even in a freezing weather, but this reflects very negatively on the hair and the scalp. The sudden change of temperatures - from a warm room to a very cold weather outside is a common cause of excessive dryness and irritation of the scalp and an increase of dandruff.

Touching your hair too often

By constantly touching your hair, you stimulate the production of fatty secretions. Excessive oiliness of the scalp, as we saw already, is the perfect condition for the development of dandruff.

Inadequate final rinse

Even the best washing product becomes a threat if it is not completely washed off the hair at the end. Remains of shampoo can irritate the scalp and cause accelerated renewal of skin cells in this area.

Insufficient water intake

Often, the cause for the emergence or exacerbation of dandruff is a too dry scalp. When we do not drink enough water every day, the moisture balance of the body is distorted and the epidermis does not receive enough moisture.
