Natural recipes for beautiful hands in winter
Dryness, redness, cracking - these and other conditions related to the skin on our hands are one of the earliest indicators of the coming winter. The extreme weather conditions and temperature variations, typical of this season, weaken the skin's ability to retain moisture by nearly 25%. Adding the fact that the palms of the hands are equipped only with a scarce amount of sebaceous glands, whose functioning is slowed down in cold weather, it becomes clear why their skin becomes a sort of “weather station”.
To maintain the attractive appearance of our hands, even during the coldest time of the year, we needs to really become more caring than ever. Above all, a good care means applying a hydrating cream several times per day and wearing warm gloves when going out.
We can help our hands stay beautiful by combining the basic cosmetic care with home-made phytocosmetics.
- Corn exfoliant
Corn is a plant that was cultivated by the ancient Olmecs and Maya, more than 7000 years ago. The name, which the Indians gave it means "life-giving". And indeed, more than 3500 different products can be made from corn - from Coke Cola drinks to industrial adhesives and shoe polish to fireworks, antibiotics and soaps. We, on the other hand, will take advantage of its ability to revitalize withered hand skin. To do this, we need to mix 2 tablespoons of cornmeal with 1 egg white. The mixture is scrubbed vigorously on the palms for 2-3 minutes, after which it is washed off with hot water. The result of the procedure is a soft and fresh skin, free of dead cells.
- Potato hot tub
The potato is a plant with equally ancient roots. Its homeland is South America, and its appearance on the European continent was accompanied by a huge dose of mistrust and caution by the population. Potato was even called "devil's apple" in some parts of Europe and its consumption was considered an unforgivable sin. Fortunately, these prejudices are long forgotten and the delicious vegetable is nowadays used not only in cooking, but in folk medicine and phytocosmetics, as well. Periodic baths with hot water, in which potatoes had been boiled, are extremely helpful for red and cracked after frost hands. Mashed potatoes, prepared with milk, applied and left on the skin for 20 - 30 minutes, is also very beneficial.
- Onion compress
The ability of onions to bestow health and strength has been known to mankind for thousands of years. Because of this quality, the spicy vegetable was a staple food for workers constructing grandiose buildings, such as the Chinese Great Wall and the Egyptian pyramids. The world-famous physicians Hippocrates and Avicenna prescribed onion therapy against all kinds of health problems. The plant is known for being a superb assistant in the fight against dandruff, hair loss and dry skin. A compress of gruel made of fresh or baked onions restores the smoothness of the rough epidermis within half an hour. Along with this, it destroys disease-causing microbes, thus preventing inflammation.
