Symptoms of periodontitis
More and more people are faced with the diagnosis "periodontitis" – a progressive disintegration of the gum tissue and the bone below it, resulting in gum stripping, loose teeth and even tooth loss. The condition is the second phase of previous untreated gum inflammation (gingivitis) and is directly related to oral hygiene, which the sufferer observes. Here are the symptoms of periodontitis and how to prevent it.
Bacteria in plaque that is deposited in the base of the teeth are considered a major cause of periodontitis. In systematically poor or improper cleaning, the microorganisms irritate and inflame the gums. Swelling forms a pocket between the tooth and the gum, which collects more plaque provoking infectious process. If not suppressed in time, the infection spreads to the tissues and bone, undermining (like erosion) the natural tooth structure.
Although periodontitis can proceed without any obvious signs, there are symptoms indicating that the inflammation is at advanced stage and a dentist could easily recognize them. These symptoms are:
- Swollen, sensitive in touch and / or painful gums
- Gums bleeding without reason or under very light pressure
- Bad breath (especially if all cavities are cured) and bad taste in the oral cavity
- Change in the color and shape of the gums (when healthy they are pale pink and matt)
- Formation of pus bags
- Gum stripping (teeth look loonger, as if their roots are seen)
- Expansion of the interdental spaces and changes in the bite
- Tooth loosening
- Tooth loss
The best prevention against periodontitis is the regular visit to a dentist and observance of an excellent oral hygiene with the right dental products.
In sensitive teeth and problematic gums is recommended the use of Medium or Extra Soft toothbrushes with a special technology of the fibers that gently clean the interdental spaces without irritating the gums; brushes, which are also enamel friendly and reach deeply between the teeth and gum, where pockets form.
It is important the toothpaste to be also for periodontitis. Choose its formula depending on the condition of your gums and teeth (sensitive, painful, bleeding, yellowing). The powerful active ingredients noticeably tighten and soothe while also reduce sensitivity, eliminate harmful bacteria, provide fresh breath and whiten the enamel.
It is recommended to observe the second and the third step of the cleaning ritual - flossing and mouthwash rinsing for perfect plaque removal and maximum comfort in the oral cavity after tooth brushing. The mouthwash may have a prophylactic effect that tightens the gums and cleans the plaque, or it may be a concentrate, which acts therapeutically in existing symptoms of gingivitis and periodontitis, as well as after surgical interventions.
The gum gel is especially effective complementary care in periodontitis and other gum problems (swelling, redness, stripping or trauma from new crowns, implants, bridges). Containing powerful antiseptic and soothing ingredients, as well as hyaluronic acid, it quickly relieves inflammation, helps the healing of tissues, reduces sensitivity and eliminates bad breath.
Periodontitis is an insidious disease. No one regardless of his age is insured. Therefore there is no need to wait the symptoms to appear to start taking better care of our teeth and gums. The right products are waiting for us on the shelf, so we must only select them and make friends with them. Who knows, thus we may avoid an unexpected meeting with the dentist.
