How to dry your hair?
Drying is just as important to hair’s health and beauty as the rituals of washing and additional care. Although experts always recommend to leave your hair dry naturally, when you are pressed for time, you are compelled to change your approach. Therefore it is important to know how to dry your hair without damaging it. Here are some tips.
You can prepare your hair for drying even while you are washing it. Better choose a shampoo with moisturizing formula (suitable for dry hair) in case that you are going to use a blow-dryer thereafter. The shampoo will increase the amount of moisture in the hair and thus will provide a kind of protection from the hot air.
You should not forget to apply a conditioner, selected according to the characteristics of your hair. Its formula will provide additional protection for the hair against heat appliances, and will help you style it easily.
It is important to dry your hair carefully. It is enough to wrap it in a towel for 10-15 minutes and press the "turban"with hands to absorb the water. Any more aggressive rubbing can damage your hair and cause splitting , tangling and dryness.
If you have decided to leave your hair dry by itself, you can simply apply an appropriate styling product for easier combing. Comb your hair with fingers from time to time to alternate the locks that are exposured to the air.
If you use a hairdryer you must spray well each strand of your hair with heat protection product, first. Then it is good to adjust the drying temperature. As fine hair is prone to tangling, for it is recommended the lowest level of the device. For normal and thick hair you can test the temperature on the back of your hand – it must be pleasantly warm, not burning.
After you dry your hair randomly about a minute, experts recommend turning your head down for another minute combing your hair with fingers and turning the strands towards the air flow. This method will help the hair dry faster in the roots and will give it natural volume at the same time.
It’s time for the real drying, which you can combine with styling. Your hair will dry much more easily and evenly if you divide it into sections and start drying it from the undermost part (on the neck). It is strongly recommended to keep the hair dryer about 20 cm away from the hair and move it constantly, so that it does not blow in one and the same area. It is recommended to try to dry each strand from root to tip (using a brush), as this technique will smooth the structural layers of the hair making it look more shiny and vibrant.
If you want to give your hairstyle some effect, you can straighten or twist the strands simultaneously with their drying. It is important, however, to use the right round brush for straightening, coiling and uncoiling the strands to prevent them from stretching, pulling, entanglement or other aggressive actions which result in breakage.
Especially beneficial for the hair is to leave it slightly wet. This will reduce the risk of drying, tangling and damage. For a final shine however, experts recommend blowing your hair briefly with the cold air of the hair dryer and applying a moisturizing, smoothing or nourishing product in the hair ends.
